About MOH
The Ministry of Health (MoH) Zanzibar is a ministry which established under a Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
Health has always been used as one of the major political instrument throughout the world. The responsibilities of the Government of Zanzibar through the Ministry of Health (involving all sectors) is to ensure that the rights to quality health care is secured. This also includes the rights of the vulnerable groups who may require special services and protection.
Head offices are located in Vuga, Stone town Area opposite to Mnazi Mmoja Hospital. The MOH is currently comprising seven directorates, together with the units and programmes which report to them, is scattered throughout Zanzibar Town in a variety of buildings and offices. On Pemba, the Office of the Administrator, which has the status of a Directorate, is situated in Wete
The Ministry is led by a Minister assisted by a Deputy Minister, who are responsible for all political decisions. The chief executive in areas of planning and administration is the Principal secretary, assisted by a Director General. There are also Directors of Administration & Finance , Director Planning, Policy & Research, Director Curative Services and Director Preventive Services & Health Education, and each Directorate head is assisted by various sectional heads.
Vision of the MOH
Is the responsibility of the Government of Zanzibar through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to make sure that all Zanzibar secure the rights to quality health care. This also includes the rights of vulnerable groups and disadvantage who may require special services and protection.
Mission of the MOH
To ensure that all Zanzibari’s secure their right to quality health services, rendered in a cost-effective and affordable manner.
Ministry’s main Objective
To improve health status and well being of the people of Zanzibar through provision of quality, equitable, accessible and affordable services with particular attention to women, children and other vulnerable groups
